PREMIER
The Alterna Rush Premiere happened at the East Texas Herp Society Banquet on October 1st 2011. It was attended by ETHS members and auspicious company such as Craig and Linda Trumbower, Dr. James R. Dixon, and alterna hunters, breeders, and lovers from all over the U.S. Comments after the film included, "It was entertaining without being over the top." "You portrayed herping in West Texas EXACTLY AS IT IS, and I really felt like I was right there with you." "It was nice to see our hobby portrayed by one of our own." The audience was treated as a focus group, and they were encouraged to make suggestions for how to improve the film. We will be making a few adjustments, having some sound work done, adding in the animation which has been expertly executed courtesy of Ambient Skies Productions, and we should have the DVD's in the mail no later than November 1st! ABOUT THE FILM
No way! Is the phrase we hear more than any other when we tell people the story of Alterna Rush. Grown men spending every vacation they have pursuing a small Kingsnake in West Texas, a Kansas business man selling everything to open a snake lover's motel along the Mexican border, a veterinarian who wrote a CD of banjo tunes about reptiles and amphibians, and the state of Texas going out of their way to stop these outdoorsmen from pursuing their passion are a few of the unusual stories you'll hear. Alterna Rush is a curious tale about an improbable place known as the Trans-Pecos and a little known passtime called field herping. Through the course of the film you will learn the natural history of the graybanded kingsnake (Lampropeltis alterna) and the history of its interactions with humans. You will see a beautiful and little known part of the USA, and watch a battle unfold between big government, and a small group of passionate outdoorsmen.
